Introduction to Web 2.0

Web 2.0 is something many people have never heard of and if they have they often don’t know exactly what it means. For myself and many millennials, we do not remember a time when web 2.0 did not exist. This means for us Web 2.0 is just simply the Internet.  According to, “Web 2.0 is the current state of online technology as it compares to the early days of the Web, characterized by greater user interactivity and collaboration, more pervasive network connectivity and enhanced communication channels.” Web 2.0 was created with business, communication, and collaboration in mind.

Shown here are some features of the web and how they were changed from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0 (O’Reilly, 2005).

We use Web 2.0 every single day and do not take in to consideration what it would be like without it. Features such as Office 365, Google Drive, and Wikipedia would not exist without Web 2.0. Web 2.0 turned the Internet from static webpages to a place to collaborate, learn, and enhance business with ease. Next time you get on the Internet think about just how different your experience would be without Web 2.0.
